Most flashcards only hold text

A listening exam asks you to recognize what you hear: a passage of music, a spoken phrase, a native speaker's accent. Text-only cards can't test that, and computer-generated pronunciation can't replace the recordings your class actually uses.

Put the recording on the card

Upload mp3, m4a or wav files to your own flashcard deck. Put the clip on the front, write the answer on the back, then study: press play, type your answer, and flip to see if you were right.

What audio flashcards do

Your own audio on either face

Each card takes one clip on the front or the back. With audio on the front, the front text can stay empty, so the card is purely “listen and answer”.

One card per file, in one pick

Choose “Add cards from audio files” and select up to 50 clips at once. Quizzz creates one card per file, and you fill in the backs.

Listen, type, then flip

In Typing mode you hear the clip, type what you think it is, and the card flips to show the answer next to what you typed. You can replay a clip as often as you like.

Add audio from Chat

In Chat, choose “Upload audio for flashcards” from the + menu (up to 5 clips at a time), then @-mention a clip and a deck and ask the chat to build a new deck or put the clip on a specific card.

How to make audio flashcards

1

Open Flashcards

Sign in as a student, go to Flashcards and create a deck by hand.

2

Add your clips

Choose “Add cards from audio files”, or add a clip to a single card. Files can be mp3, m4a or wav, up to 10 MB and 5 minutes each.

3

Write the answers and study

Fill in each back, save, and start a typing session. Listen, answer, flip, repeat.

Who uses audio flashcards

Music listening exams

Put an excerpt on the front and the piece, composer or period on the back, then drill until you can name every excerpt on the listening list.

Language dictation

Record a word or sentence, or use your textbook's audio, and type what you hear. The card shows your answer next to the correct one.

Your teacher's recordings

Turn the clips your teacher shared in class into a deck you can review on your phone before the test.

Ear training

Record intervals, chords or rhythms, put the answer on the back, and quiz yourself until you name each one by ear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which audio files can I upload?+
mp3, m4a and wav, up to 10 MB and 5 minutes per clip. For longer clips, MP3 or M4A keeps the file small.
Can I put audio on the back instead?+
Yes. Each card takes one clip, and you choose front or back. A clip on the back plays after you flip, for example to hear the correct pronunciation.
Do the study modes all work with audio cards?+
Flip mode and Typing mode play the clip. Matching needs text on the front, so audio-only cards are skipped there.
If I share my deck, is the audio shared too?+
Not yet. A shared deck copies the text only. Card audio isn't copied, and audio-only cards with no front text are left out.
Can a teacher add audio to a deck for the class?+
Audio upload is on student flashcard decks today. Teachers who want students to hear audio in a quiz can use listening questions or question audio in the quiz builder.
I'm a student — can I use this for self-study?+
Yes. Sign up for a free student account, pick any topic or paste your own study material, and AI will generate practice questions instantly. You can track which areas you keep getting wrong and focus your review there.
