Claude quiz guide

How to make an interactive quiz with Claude

Claude can write good questions and turn them into a clickable quiz. How you share it depends on who answers it: one learner practicing alone, or a whole class whose scores you need to see. This guide covers both routes and their limits.

The short answer

Yes, Claude can make interactive quizzes. Ask it to build the quiz as an artifact and it renders a clickable quiz beside the chat that you can try, revise, and share as a link. That suits self-study and demos, but an artifact has no class roster or gradebook. When a class needs one student link and you need every score, add Quizzz as a custom connector at https://mcp.quizzz.link/mcp. Claude writes the questions, Quizzz saves them as a quiz with a public exam link, and no Quizzz AI credits are spent.

Step-by-step workflow

  1. 1

Decide who will answer the quiz

Write down the goal and the audience before prompting. A quiz you or one learner will practice with can live entirely inside Claude. A quiz for a class needs a link students can open, a record of who answered, and scores you can act on. That choice decides which of the two routes below you need.

Practical tip: If you will want to know which student missed which question, plan for the connector route from the start.

  2. 2

Route A: ask Claude for an interactive artifact

Ask for the quiz as an artifact and be specific: “Build an interactive artifact quiz with 8 multiple-choice questions on the past simple for A2 learners. Show one question at a time, explain each answer after it is chosen, and show the score at the end.” Claude renders the quiz in a panel beside the conversation, where you can click through it and ask for changes. Artifacts are available on the Free plan; Anthropic’s help center says they need “Code execution and file creation” turned on in Settings → Capabilities.

Practical tip: Ask Claude to list the answer key in the chat as well, so you can check it without playing every question.

  3. 3

Review the artifact, then share it

Play the quiz once as a learner: check that each question has one defensible answer and that the feedback is accurate. Artifacts start private. Depending on your plan and the kind of artifact, you either use Share to give access (on Pro and Max, “Anyone with the link”; viewers then sign in to Claude) or Publish an artifact made in a chat, which creates a public link anyone can open without an account. Each viewer gets their own copy of the page, so answers are not gathered into a class list for you.

Practical tip: Anthropic’s consumer terms require Claude users to be at least 18 (or older where local law says so), so do not plan on younger students signing in to open a quiz.

  4. 4

Route B: add the Quizzz connector to Claude

Create a free Quizzz teacher account first. In Claude on the web, go to Customize → Connectors, choose + Add, then add a custom connector. Name it Quizzz and paste https://mcp.quizzz.link/mcp as the server URL. Claude opens a Quizzz sign-in page: sign in, review the permissions, and click Allow. No API key is needed, and the connector only acts on your own Quizzz account. Free Claude accounts can add one custom connector.

Practical tip: If you connected Quizzz earlier with https://quizzz.techtranslab.com/api/mcp, that address keeps working.

  5. 5

Ask Claude to create the quiz with a student link

Prompt in plain language: “Create a 10-question quiz on the water cycle for grade 6 and give me a public exam link.” Claude writes the questions and uses the connector’s create_quiz_with_public_link tool, which saves the quiz and returns a link students open without accounts. Supported formats include multiple choice, true/false, fill-in-the-blank, cloze, reading comprehension with a passage, matching, ordering, and short answer. Your Quizzz plan caps questions per quiz: 20 on Free, up to 50 on Pro. In Claude on the web and desktop, Claude can also show the quiz as an inline practice card in the chat.

Practical tip: Open the saved quiz in Quizzz and review it before sharing. Results from every student then appear in one place, already scored.

Three ways teachers use Claude for quizzes

The writing step is the same in each case. What changes is where the quiz lives and who sees the results.

Artifact

Self-study vocabulary drill

Ask for a 10-item artifact quiz that shows a word in a sentence, offers four meanings, and repeats missed items at the end. Use it yourself or share it with an adult learner.

Connector

Five-minute exit ticket for a class

After a lesson, ask Claude to create five questions on the key point and return a public exam link. Put the link or its QR code on the board and read the scores in Quizzz before the next lesson.

Connector

Reading check from your own passage

Paste a short text and ask for reading comprehension questions that use it as the shared passage, plus two short-answer items with accepted answers. Claude saves the quiz to your Quizzz library for reuse next term.

Before you share a quiz Claude made

  • You chose the route that matches the audience: artifact for practice, connector for a class.
  • Every question has one defensible answer, and you checked the key yourself.
  • Explanations say why the right answer is right, not just which one it is.
  • For an artifact, you know whether viewers will need to sign in to Claude.
  • For the connector, the quiz fits your plan’s questions-per-quiz limit.
  • You opened the student link in a private window before sending it.

Common mistakes with Claude quizzes

Expecting an artifact to collect class results

An artifact is a self-contained page. Unless you build and verify storage yourself, each viewer’s score stays with that viewer. Use a quiz platform when you need a class record.

Skipping the answer-key review

Claude drafts quickly, but a mis-keyed answer or two plausible options still reaches students if nobody checks. Review every question before sharing on either route.

Asking for “a quiz” with no constraints

Name the level, the number of questions, the formats, and the feedback you want. Vague prompts produce generic questions that do not match your lesson.

Frequently asked questions

Can Claude make interactive quizzes?

Yes. Ask Claude to build the quiz as an artifact and it renders a clickable quiz with feedback and a score beside the chat. To give a class one link and see every student’s result, connect Quizzz and ask Claude to create the quiz with a public exam link.

Can Claude make Quizlet-style flashcards?

Claude can build a flip-card artifact from a word list in the same way it builds a quiz. With the Quizzz connector, it can also create flashcards from a quiz you saved, so the same vocabulary is available as a quiz and as a flashcard set.

Does the Quizzz connector use my Quizzz AI credits?

No. Claude writes the questions itself, and the connector validates and saves them. The connector does not call Quizzz’s own AI generation.

Do students need a Claude account?

Not on the connector route: students open the Quizzz link without any account. On the artifact route it depends on how you share. A published chat artifact opens without an account, while artifacts shared through Share need viewers to sign in to Claude.
