Why Jumbled-Sentence Worksheets Take So Long

Cutting each sentence into words, shuffling them, writing an answer key, and then checking every student's order by hand takes time. Japanese and Chinese make it harder: there are no spaces to show where one word ends, so splitting a sentence into sensible pieces is a judgment call. And a paper key usually allows only one answer, even when a sentence can correctly be ordered two ways.

Put-the-Words-in-Order Questions, Built and Checked for You

Quizzz has a dedicated ordering question type. When you ask for sentence unscramble or word-order questions, the AI writes one word per tile. For Japanese, Chinese, and Thai it splits by whole words — in Japanese, short chunks that keep their particle, such as 「コーヒーを」 — and never breaks a word into single characters. Switch a question to word tiles and students see the scrambled sentence as a row of tiles instead of a numbered list. This practises word order and sentence structure, not spelling.

What the Sentence Unscramble Question Does

One Word per Tile, Even Without Spaces

In English, Spanish, or Vietnamese, no tile contains a space. In Japanese, Chinese, and Thai, tiles are whole words rather than single characters. Every tile stays editable before you publish.

Drag, Tap, or Use the Keyboard

Students drag tiles with a mouse, long-press to drag on a phone, or tap a tile and then tap where it should go. Tiles always start shuffled, never already in the right order.

More Than One Correct Order

When a sentence has two natural word orders, add up to five extra correct orders. An answer that matches any of them is marked correct, and the review lists the other accepted orders.

Automatic Checking With Clear Feedback

Every answer is graded automatically. In review, every tile is marked right or wrong for its position, and the correct sentence is shown in full — joined without spaces for Japanese and Chinese.

Built for Word-Order Practice in Language Classes

ESL and English Teachers

Practise question formation, adverb placement, and the order of words in longer sentences. Students rebuild each sentence one word tile at a time.

Japanese Teachers

Build 並べ替え questions for particles and verb-final word order. Tiles keep particles with their word (「毎朝」「コーヒーを」「飲みます」), so students practise sentence structure rather than splitting words.

Chinese Teachers

Create 重組句子 practice for time words, place phrases, and sentence patterns. Tiles are whole words, so a word like 圖書館 is never split into separate characters.

Self-Study Learners

Studying for JLPT, TOCFL, or any language exam on your own? Pick a topic, let AI generate practice questions, and drill at your own pace. Track your weak areas over time — no teacher required.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the sentence unscramble generator free to use?+
Yes. The free plan gives you AI quiz generation with unlimited quizzes, classrooms, students and share links. No credit card required.
How is a sentence unscramble different from a word scramble?+
A sentence unscramble mixes up the words of one sentence, and students put the words back in order — it practises word order and grammar. A word scramble usually mixes up the letters inside a single word, which practises spelling — Quizzz has no letter-scramble question type, but its word search and crossword builders work with the letters of your word list. This page covers the sentence-level question.
How does Quizzz split Japanese or Chinese sentences that have no spaces?+
The AI is instructed to use one whole word per tile and never to split a word into single characters. In Japanese a tile is a short chunk that may keep its particle, such as 「コーヒーを」. Before publishing you can edit the text of any tile, add tiles, or remove them.
What if a sentence can be ordered in more than one correct way?+
You can add up to five alternative correct orders to a question. A student's answer is compared with every accepted order, and the review shows the other orders that also count as correct.
How are the answers graded?+
Automatically. A question counts as correct when every tile is in the right place for one of the accepted orders. In review, each tile is marked right or wrong for its position, so students can see exactly which words were out of place.
Do students need an account?+
No. Students open the Magic Link and start answering immediately — no app download, no account, no access code.
I'm a student — can I use this for self-study?+
Yes. Sign up for a free student account, pick any topic or paste your own study material, and AI will generate practice questions instantly. You can track which areas you keep getting wrong and focus your review there.
